Fulmars have a single adult plumage, definitive basic, and their juvenal plumage is almost indistinguishable from it. But within that plumage, there are wide variations, including the dark and light morphs, with almost every shade in between, and more and less mottled plumage. This bird shows a good deal of mottling.
