As much as we all hate horse flies and deer flies because of their tendency to bite us, a close look at them often reveals some of the most spectacular eyes in the insect world. When this deer fly landed on my pants, the neon glow of its eyes was so dramatic that I had to photograph it even though I much prefer a natural setting.
