In the midst of our homogeneous American culture, it's somehow reassuring that a few local communities have been able to resist assimilation. Here's a world apart, an isolated Amish-Mennonite enclave in rural Pennsylvania.

Just viewed your Amish/Mennonite Communities / Amish Communites and Rural Pennsylvania Churches. Don't know if you do this as a pro or your own enjoyment, but God has given you a great gift. The beauty that you see through that lens. Keep sharing the joy.

As a student of Phoenix University-On line, I'm doing a brief paper on Amish assimilation, or rather their ability to resist assimilation. It was great to come across some pictures to better put their lifestyle into perspective. What beautiful land. I can see why they would want to preserve their ways; I'm somewhat envious of their ability to focus on the important things in life. Thanks for some great shots!

Hi Tom and Miriam-- Got your Christmas letter. I see that you have not lost your touch with a camera. I especially appreciated the Amish pics. As you know, we are pretty close to many in the Amish community in Holmes County. I'm even a regular reader of "The Budget." Several Amish families manufactured my science equipment. Since then, I switched careers, and am now a tenure-track history instructor at Cuyahoga Community College. I use Amish examples all the time when talking about economics, land use, culture, and the relationship between religion and the state. Glad to hear that everyone is well. Same at this end. Bob
