Morocco 2006

Morocco -- Casablanca, Marrakech, Ourika Valley, Essaouira

One theme of the photos is the fascinating blend of tradition and modernity that we saw everywhere in Morocco. Clothing styles range from very conservative to the latest western fashions; languages vary from Arabic, to Berber, to French, to English; ubiquitous satellite dishes compete with mosques on the skyline of every city and town; ancient city centers (medina) are surrounded by rapidly developing suburbs and tourist hotels; students study the Koran and play video games on their cell phones.
