We suffered numerous minor injuries while living in Palawan, especially to our feet, as we adjusted to walking in the open rubber sandals worn
by all the local people. Here Miriam's foot was pierced by the protruding base of some bamboo that had been cut down with a machete to clear the trail.
The sharp point of the bamboo cut right through her foot but, despite all the blood, it fortunately did not do any serious damage.
