ILLUMINATI
kudbegud

The goal was to illuminated the egg from behind, obscuring all indication of the light source. I used a mini-maglite with some black tape to seal out stray light. A trick I used to keep the egg from rolling was to put a few grains of salt on the paper, then the egg on the salt. A pic of the set-up is here: http://www.pbase.com/image/8024099

It came out a little differently than i thought it would. More inner illumination like....orange'y hue'd. Much darker shadow...but the only light was from the maglite. Sun spot covered came to mind...an egg shaped Sun maybe, or an asteroid, hot lava rock or something??

Maybe do a white ballance adjustment to shift the color to white? More angle? More lighting to cut the deep shadow? hmmm.

Yes, more space around the egg, as in looser crop. --Dee

Thank you for your explanation and for the set up photo. Hmmm, I didn't say the paper had to be smooth, did I... LOL! Where do you plan to go from here? I sort of like the egg-sun angle and maybe if you had more room around the egg it might take this image to an "outer space" concept? I really like the glow. The focus doesn't seem quite sharp though it could be the compression. Did you use a time exposure, tripod? --Dee
