maui's north shore

having just got back from maui for a buddys wedding (boo hoo me), i havent been able to participate as i usually do; but at least i got back in time to submit one or 2 pics.

this blowhole was formed over many (hundreds, thousands?)years of waves beating underneath a large lavabed. at certain circumstances this blowhole can reach almost 100 feet high.

thanx both for the comments..it was quite an astonishing scene in person, the real eerie part was getting real close between waves and taking a look down..it looked almost like the "sand mouth" from return of the jedi

Wow Mexiwolf, that blow hole is so striking..it looks like a deep cut in the water plane the way the water shoots out yet does not disturb the surface at all . A Smooth mirrored reflection enhances the feeling of this perfect tearing. Good contrast of the rough open sea and this protected pool.. Best of course is the V ictorious pose Witness to the powerful impact.~Very Good Capture~Irish

mexiwolf, I really like the similarity between the uplifting posture of the man and the lively motion of the sea. Your perspective is wonderful, making the foreground seem as one, continuous, un-interrupted scene. It forces the viewer to wonder where that surge of water comes from...a neat way to demonstrate the dramatic action of the blowhole. Well seen and taken, mexiwolf. MFC
