Sorry about that uuu David...I was going to say that I like the colors and the perspective in this. The brown/red is very rich. The candle, ideally, imo could be less exposed...but under the circumstances that is difficult to do without losing the rest of the image.

The composition works just fine and I really like the hint of a background. It adds mystery, as Linda pointed out, and depth to the shot. *: You could remove it but that'd change the mood. Did you try this with different settings? I'd be interested to know what it looks like with a faster shutter speed & compensated aperture settings. - Simon Bennett.

Just to show you I DO break the rule of thirds myself from time to time, I posted an image that defies the "rule of thirds" (see Desperate Measures). It's only meant as a guide in composing images, it's not a must do for a successful image. Your image is beautiful just as it is :-) Markjay

I agree with Arn on the centered placement here. I think it works because you have the three elements, creating their own so-called 'rule of thirds.' I love the richness of the lighting on the wood. [*] I also happen to agree with Arn on his feeling about the background. If you have an image editing program which has a burn tool or something similar, it wouldn't take much to darken the background a bit. Even blurring it might be a good thing. --Nancy

I like the lighting and mood on this one AND the central composition, because (for one thing) it creates those nice shadows on the table :) But I do wish that the backround was a little more out-of-focus or darker. -Arn

I like what you did here in creating a mood with the candles. I'm just not a big fan of center compositions. Try doing this again, it's mood and tone are very appealing. Try placing the candle holder stand in the top left "rule of thirds" area of the frame? Markjay
