everybody is an art critic *

Due to some of the questions that have been asked in comments, I felt I should post a bit of explanation on this photo since it is not my intention to trick anyone. The photo was taken in the modern art gallery of the Stanford Museum of Art. The "workman" is actually a sculpture in the collection. He was created by artist Duane Hanson, a member of the realist school in the 1960s and 1970s. The title is "Slab Man", he is vinyl resin and fiberglas, polychromed in oil.

"Slab Man" is VERY realistic. I was comepletely fooled for a minute the first time I saw him and was shocked by his casual stance in such a formal setting (well, I *thought* he was real!). I now chuckle every time I see him. Although I took a number of shots, I chose this one hoping it would impart the feeling I had the first time I saw him.

Indeed an extraordinary creation, and you've shown him off to perfection here, Michael. Do people go up and poke him? Well >here's the late cartoonist 'Larry' on that subject, especially for Deb and Katherine :-)

Ha! Joke's on us! I would have bet money he was real. Excellent submission to our topic.---Deb...Wouldn't it be funny to see a video of how many patrons HAVE actually poked him to see if he were real?

Really funny, Michael; I would never have guessed he is a sculpture. Your title is classic; I love it. AND, since we're talking photography - the lighting is perfect - great capture. Bev

This is a very funny shoot Michael. Was this guy posing for you or he was really doing some repairs and took a break?

The composition is really excellent.
