Hi Jamie - I took the picture in shadow, so as to keep the differences between the highlights and shadows from being too extreme. I then focused on the inside of the oil filter to ensure that it would be sharp, and shot at a small aperture to get some depth of field. Once imported to PS, I selected the area visible through the base plate only, and did a levels adjustment to bring the brightness up to match the outside of the filter. Then I increased the saturation on the whole image until the color started to show through, but not so far as to cause too much posterizing. In hindsight, I probably should have shot a group of oil filters and given them the same treatment... - Ed Hahn

Looks like the inside is lit... how did you do that? Nice shot.. makes a normally uninteresting thing look interesting.
