It takes a big crew and a lot of money to bring an Unlimited racer to Reno. A race team like Miss America will have a tractor-trailer rig for spare parts and tools; an RV or two for crew quarters, a $20K insurance premium, a $10K fuel bill, etc. One Unlimited owner told me the direct costs to bring his one airplane to Reno for race week are $200K. Several owners race two, or even three airplanes.
