i actually was there!! in wisconsin, anyways!! i have pictures of these yea yea!!! northern lights are absolutely phenominal!! u were lucky to get pictures like this!

This bring back some wonderful memories. I grew up in Iowa and loved laying on the ground even as an adult to just stare at the wonder of the colors. Also camping in Wisconsin Dells in August each year we'd see it beauty of the Aurora Borealis. I miss it we moved tothe St Louis area back in the late 70's. Last summer we got a very samll peak of the Aurora Borealis and boy I miss the beauty of seeing it. These are great.

Saw a good northern lights display this evening heading west from Dubuque, IA on hgwy 151.
Western edge had red-brown color and center had lots of light green undulating smoke-like waves with a few spikes that reached very high vertically. there were some low-level clouds that made it even more dramatic.

Bjarni, thanks. I can see the red aurora most of the time although it can be quite faint at times. On several occasions it has been very bright. I've heard from others that the red color usually only shows up at lower latitiudes.

Good photos, I live in Iceland and though I´ve taken many northern light photos I´ve never seen them in red color, only green and purple. Do you see the red color with bare eyes or is it just something your camera spots?
