We spent one day driving out the east entrance over Tioga Pass and looked around the Mono Lake basin. The ranger at the Mono Lake Visitor Center recommended a visit to Bodie State Park, as well as the South Tufa area. The lady at the post office recommended lunch at the gas station - which was one of the outstanding meals of the trip! If you ever find yourself in Lee Vining at mealtime, the Lobster Taquitos and the Chicken Caesar Wrap are delicious.
Mono Lake
Bodie State Park is an old mining ghost town.
It is in a state of "suspended decay".
It's heyday was back in the 1880's, when it had a population of about 10,000.
The buildings that are left are still in the condition they were in when deserted.
You can wander the streets and look in the windows.
