Our tax dollars hard at work. This nice old gate got a new paint job and sign today. Of course the worker missed a spot and the old green shows through. Now the best part of this gate, with its "Keep Gate Closed Sign" it isn't attached to a fence. It is in the middle of the old dirt road. I think you could still get a truck around it no problem. I guess they couldn't afford a gate that was as wide as the road.
Now for the rest of our story. Today we went for a nice hike. I would have taken this shot early when we were headed up the trail. But NO, I wanted to wait for better light. So, I told Wanda we would take it when we got back down, which should be a half hour to 45 minutes before sunset. Well, the last time I hiked this trail was 30 plus years ago. Just past the gate the trail splits. I took the wrong split. What was supposed to be an hour and a half to two hour hike was four hours plus. Let us just say it was dark when we got to the truck. Can I say "bad flash snap shot"? You can't have pretty pictures everyday.
I did get a picture of a butterfly I have never seen in our area before. It is a California Sister Butterfly Adelpha bredowii. It was picking up moisture in the mud at one of the creek crossings http://www.pbase.com/image/33091972
