911 ST Project (Leon Potgieter)

Hello Armando; I would like to have my car on the web. This is the full story just so you know what is going on. I bought a very much used 912 https://pbase.com/image/75127820 in 2001 as a project car, the car was a non runner. I wanted a 2.7 RS so that is what I built in the pictures attached https://pbase.com/image/75127821. When I bought the car I was only 19 and didn’t know 'shxt' on how to rebuild a car, so the end result was nice but I had nothing special.

Last year I visited Ruf in Germany and then saw how they rebuild cars. I was shocked and realized I made one big mess taking many short cuts. The day after I came back from Germany I started stripping my car https://pbase.com/image/75127826.

The fact that at every Porsche club event there were always about 5 RS replicas has been irritating me for a while so I decided on a ST. There is nothing like it in the country and I am now building an ST https://pbase.com/image/75128988.

This project is on a tear or two schedule but will send photos regularly.

Here are some basic photos will send more. It will still be some time before the rear ones are installed as I need to change the car to long wheel base etc.

I will try to get a lot of factory parts but I earn in South African currency and here you can buy a car rent a flat and live well above the bread line on $ 700 a month if you see what I mean. For me to pay $ 1000 for a petrol tank is actually sick.

Some of the parts that I have to get this car looking right are hella door number lights, dash warning lights as used in a 906. A pair of rain shields for 46 Weber’s(911 R style), front and back engine lid rubber straps, RSR strut brace base mounts, an original pair of RSR front rear and anti roll bar mounts made from alu, a 2.4 S engine casing (so that it looks right). I am negotiating with a friend for 46 Weber’s. I also got hold of two 15’’ x 9 Fuchs replicas

All engine covers will be clear fiber glass as original

I also want to see if I can build a marreli twin spark distributor from a bosch base that is in my 2.7 kjet engine , I have the cap but need a rotor and a plan(your advice here will help)

I am going to build Cibie lights, the plan is to take a mould from an original cibie then make a carbon mould of the rear area. Then ill buy a new cibie and use the lenses and internals. (if it works it will cost a fraction of the originals and no one will know difference).

As I have easy access to carbon and the processes the door skins, bonnet and bumpers will be carbon fiber but painted over.

I still have a lot of work but I think the dream is in good shape

Do you maybe have a steering wheel horn button for a 380mm steering wheel that you want to sell, the one with no ‘’wings’’. Nobody has seen one in the country,

Hi, You said I had to keep you updated on my project o here goes. I received a complete set of original steel RSR 2.8 fenders from the owner of 0636 and as they are so similar to ST items I will fit them as is. He also gave me a plastic fuel tank as mine has two fillers holes and I would like an original item. I received all this for my efforts on getting the history of the car. The car has been sandblasted and undercoated now I am repairing rust spots and replacing panels. The door skins ,bumpers and bonnet will be carbon.
