Estes Park Brewery

Estes Park, CO.

So there was a brewery that I had seen a sign for driving into Estes Park, CO, and while leaving a cafe, there was a person that had a Tshirt from that brewery on and I asked where it was, and oh by the way, did they have food, and they said “Yes”. Then I asked if they had a Reuben, and her husband said “Yes”, and I asked if it was a real Rueben with corned beef, and he said it was. So our dinner plans for the next night were set.
Since it was a brewery, we had a few samples downstairs before we headed upstairs to the restaurant. So for the 2nd night in a row I had a Rueben. At least that is what the menu called it. The $14.99 sandwich is served with a choice of a few sides, and I chose the fries. When the waitress brought out the sandwich I was surprised that they used WHEAT bread instead of rye bread- a first for me. There was a small pickle slice placed nicely between the two halves of the sandwich. There was nothing special about the pickle (sometimes there is).The corned beef was tender, there was just not a lot of it for this priced sandwich. It was served with a small cup of their Reuben sauce, which was totally bland and just added a bit of moisture to it. There not much sauerkraut or Swiss cheese for that matter. The wheat bread was not too crisp or soft, but it was WHEAT bread. A poor execution like this one gets a “D”.

Wow! I think you are being generous with a "D". You must be grading on a curve. It's not a really a Rueben but a corn beef sandwich and an unappealing one at that! Looks pretty bad! To bad because you have reviewed some good ones in the past.

Not having rye or pumpernickel is definitely a no no.

It looks delicious to me but then you're more discerning with a more polished taste for Reubens :) Nevertheless this is a fine food image, Scott...V

An excellent-looking Rueban but with a lower score sadly..V

A definite "D". I wonder why they seem to deviate from the original so often on your quest for perfection.
