I drove about 100 miles to Phoenix to join up with some childhood friends for lunch- and picked a place that had a Reuben I was wanting to try from the Miracle Mile Deli. I remember a Miracle Mile Deli growing up in Phoenix- this one is related to that one, which had moved to this location.
The $15.00 Sandwich comes with a pickle slice and a side- I chose fries- and is served warm and sliced in half- well almost. The lightly toasted ryebread was not sliced all the way through for about 3/4” on the bottom edge, so I was not off to a good start, plus the bottom piece of bread was a bit soggy. There was a lot of corned beef on the sandwich, and it was very tender. BUT it tasted Salty- mainly the 1st ˝ of the Reuben- not so much the 2nd ˝. Their “Miracle Mile Dressing” did not stand out, nor did the swiss cheese- they could have used some more of each. While the ryebread was toasted about right, it did not have much of a ryebread flavor, if any. The amount of sauerkraut they put on was ok, but it was pretty non-descript as well. The same went for the pickle, which was crisp but without much flavor. The amount of fries with the meal was ok, and they tasted ok- nothing special. If I had gone up just for the Reuben, I would have been disappointed, but seeing my old friends made the 1 ˝ hour trip worth while. Overall grade= C-
