Suncity is a very large retirement community just west of Phoenix, AZ. My wife and I had a relative that we wanted to visit, so I figured that I might as well find a place that had a Reuben and go there for lunch. The one place that popped out was a little café called Hole N One, which is fitting for an area known for a lot of golf courses.
The $11 Reuben includes a side- I chose french fries, of which there was a healthy portion and were decent tasting. There was no pickle. The first thing I noticed was that the thousand island dressing was served in a small plastic cup on the side, and not already applied to the sandwich- it was a little on the bland side. I believe this was the first time I have had it served this way. I liberally applied it to my Reuben, and ate away. The corned beef was sliced very thick, probably the thickest that has made it into my mouth. I do prefer thinner sliced corned beef, and felt there should have been more of it for this price. That being said, the corned beef was tender and did not have any fat, which I appreciated. It was a bit on the dry side, however. The ryebread was toasted perfectly. The Reuben could have used a bit more sauerkraut as well as more swiss cheese. My other two dining companions also had Reubens and had pretty much the same conclusions. The owner was nice and came over and explained how they cooked the corned beef- they did not use the brisket part but the roast portion- might be why it is thicker and drier. After considering everything, I am going to give Hole N One a solid “C” for their Reuben.
