REMEMBER THAT MRS.CUNNINGHAM PRESSED AND CURLED MANY OF THE HEADS IN AMSTERDAM, I WAS ONE. WHEN I LEFT HER APARTMENT WITH MY HAIR FRESHLY DONE I KNEW I LOOKED GREAT, BECAUSE MRS. CUNNINGHAM KNEW HOW TO TAME THE NAPS.

Chris,
I'm Dani Billy and Cyd Hammond's baby sister. I'm sure Cyd didn't mind you downloading that class picture. FYI -- St. Paul's is having an alumni reunion on September 18th. Check out the website.

My family lived in 70, Apt. 9G from about 1953-1965 (Paul and Carrie Reznick, Chris ("Fizzies") and younger brother Brian) . I hung out with Glen Williams (3D?). There were the Franklins in 11E, if I remember correctly.

This is a great site! I checked out the photo of Ms. Novelo's 6th grade class in Cyd Hammond's Gallery, and there was my brother, front row second from the right! Cyd, I hope you don't mind me downloading and printing a copy and sending it off to him, it would make his day.

This all goes back quite a few years, so memories could be inreliable. I went to St. Paul Apostle and sang in the Paulist Choristers with Billy Hammond,(I'm pretty sure) and others like Anthony Colon, and James Campos.

Hello my name is Wanda Peters and I am recently retired from NYC dept of Correction. My home away from home ( Amsterdam houses ) was Riker's island where I spent my entire career working in the trenches as a Correction officer. I am currently studying ministry as I have truly been blessed. My older sister, Martha Peters; is now an ordained minister currently residing in Detroit MI. with her husband Smitty and four beautiful children. (although she started having children later than most of her peers, she soon caught up ) We both lived with our parents in 70 amsterdam ave. (#9E) around 1966 - across the hall from Viola Woodson, Edwina Woodson, and Eddie Woodson, who lived in apt#9D at the time. Martha and Viola quickly became siamese twins. Likewise, Edwina and I were joined at the hip. Eddie was the "babyboy" who hung in limbo. Martha hooked up with Peanut Walker while Viola hooked up with her lifelong lover and friend, Clifton (Butch) Herring. Above us on the eleventh floor in apt#11E was Pat Shaw, Edna Mae Shaw, Clara Shaw,Frankie Shaw (nicknamed-BOY) and Kay Shaw. Still above us, on the tenth floor in apt#10D was Wildon Richardson, Fred (Freddy) Richardson, John (Coon) Richardson, Glen Richardson, Cynthia Richardson, Joann Richardson, Robert(Bobby)Richardson, and "babygirl" Richardson. (I forgot her name) A few years later my sister Martha got married and moved uptown in Harlem. Shortly thereafter, my parents and I moved downstairs to a smaller apartment #3F wedged in between; Linda Cunningham, Margaret Cunningham, Ruby Cunningham, and Loretta Cunningham, who lived in apt#3E, and William (Buddy) Morse and Kenny Morse who lived in apt#3G . As if the third floor didn't have enough drama, the Woodson family got lonely and moved downstairs to apt#3A, becoming our next door neighbors once again. Nevermind the house; this was the building and definitely the floor that "Jack built" . (smile)
What a wonderful new addition to the site this is... What a wonderful life it was !

Hello from Ruby and Bill Chatman. We lived in 70 from about 1948 until 1963. We first lived on the 8th floor apartment #8D. Our parents were Elizabeth (Lizzy or Iris) and my father was Willie Chatman. My father left the projects about 1951, that's when we moved to apartment to the 11th floor, apartment 11G. Bill, my brother belonged to the "Sportsmen" along with Clyde(of 80) David (lived in the back behind 70), and Harry(lived in 80). I got married and moved to Brooklyn. My mother died in 1962 at the young age of 36. I had two children named Wanda and Wendy. Bill stayed in the projects until about 1964. He moved to the Bronx got married and had a daughter, he named her after my mother Elizabeth Chatman. Fast forward 40 years and today I live in Rochester New York. My daughters also live here. Wandy is a nurse and Wendy is a teacher. I have two Grandsons Mandela 16, and Mustafa 20. Bill passed 23 years ago. Arlice called me a few nights ago and told me about the site. I'll keep checking back to hear about the news. Much LOVE to all my hommies.
