Flash portraits - a comparison

Once you get into SLR photography, "flash" isn't a bad word anymore. I've been having fun experimenting with my new SB-600 Speedlight and a new accessory, the Demb Flash Diffuser Pro. The photo on the left was taken with the SB-600 pointing straight at me (the subject). The one on the right was taken with the flash directed up and slightly to the left, bouncing it off of the ceiling. Attached to the flash is the Demb Diffuser, the parts of which I am holding in the left photo. I know the portraits aren't great (yucky horizontal blinds in the background, for starters), but I'm pretty impressed by what a difference a proper speedlight and diffuser can make to flash photography.
