Here in Iceland everybody is allowed to own and use fireworks on New Years Eve and also on the last day of Christmas (we have 13 days of Christmas here so the last day is on January 6th). And nearly everybody uses this opportunity to use the fireworks. In this album I will show you just a few shots of the fireworks last New Years Eve. And remember this is only a glimps of what it´s like. The fireworks display will continue for about 50 minutes around midnight on New Years Eve and each photo will just show a few seconds and from a very limited viewpoint as I wasn´t in a position to see over Reykjavík and surroundings. These shots were taken just outside of Reykjavík in a municipal called álftanes and they are taken just about some 1.000 meters from Bessastaðir which is where our president lives. To try and explain how the fireworks display is like, then imagin that what any one of these pictures is showing goes on for nearly 50 minutes. You can also imagin the amount of fireworks going up by all the smoke in the air that the firework light up when they explode. And of course this has led to a lot of people coming to Iceland to witness the fireworks display. This year it´s estimated that between 300 and 400 tons of fireworks were used. Enjoy.
