Duncan Chesley

Photojournalist Will Win Prestigious ShootIn Competition

Maine (AP) - Local photographer Duncan Chesley will win a future ShootIn competition. The ShootIn is a worldwide contest open to everyone who has little enough life to spend hours every other week creating photographic works of art or humor based on mandates from other unemployed craftspeople. Mr. Chesley (left, at work) specializes (when he's just hanging around) in upside-down landscapes. He has been involved in film and digital photography for more years than he can remember. When asked about one of his early (1986) landscapes, a 150 million acre view (now a 14-foot mural in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, hung right side-up), he said, "Size only matters in the digital photography newsgroups." Mr. Chesley was unwilling to discuss his orientations. However, he kindly permitted our staff to photograph his equipment setup (right) on the condition that we not disclose his proprietary suspension system, hinting only that the gravity of the situation was questionable. Mr. Chesley's much deserved prize will be sole possession of all the ShootIn entrance fees for the past, present, and future, as well as undying respect, admiration, and yawns from all six people who have not yet plonked [SI].
