Debris.Crumpled ,forgotten without sympathy. In our disposable society.Where we are just as easily discarded as the things changing around us.When altered values have sliced sharper than the blade of a raw new day severing across grey dust.Brushing it aside into nonexistent decay.

Incredibly stron, disturbing, raw and hard. You are getting to the essence of street photography. It's journalism aswell. Hard saying I love this image, because I don't like what I see, as most people would probably, which is what makes it so strong. You produce these strong testimonies at a very fast rate lately. V.

congratulations on an absolutely superb image. given my situation over the past 3 months (thankfully i now have a place and i can put that behind me), this image really strikes a chord in me. as has been noted before me, the light is absolutely brilliant. i don't think he is wanting to stay in the shade...i see it as an indication of the harsh reality that homeless people face (i am presuming he is homeless). the barrier between light and shade should be so easy to cross, it is intangible. homeless people are as much "out in the world" as anyone else, if not more so...yet there are invisible barriers which prevent them becoming a part of it. if shadow represents this man's existance, and light the existence of the rest of society, the ever encroaching strip of light, is, for me at least, representative of mainstream society trying to push these "problems" away. of course, you could also possibly interpret it in a more optimistic light. the ever encroaching light could be an awakening for him, or an acceptance of society to tackle these problems. sadly i simply cannot hold such optimism myself as i know what it is really like from first hand experience.
you've moved me. it's a brilliant photograph.

A great documentray shot. Poignant. Real. It smacks you right in the face. I love the compo and the noise. Everything falls in its right place. And the light is the icing in the cake.

A disturbing image in its thought provoking force.
I have always doubt in taking pictures of people so lost in their suffering stormy existence, I ahev the impression to violate a border I have not the right to cross, as a form of respect, but at the same time I feel the need to document a reality and to transmit also negative feelings that have not to remain hidden.
I think it’s what you are trying to do with many of your pictures too.
The role of light here is so fundamental, because it seems to me in reverse the usual meaning of sunlight and transforms it in something nearly hurting, something troubling which it’s impossible to escape from.
A moving deep picture.

I see the symbolic value of the streak of light here as well, Kal. No where to go, indeed. You have made many shots of down and out people -- it is if they are part of your conscience. This is one of your more thought provoking images -- it is very uncomfortable for him, and also for us.

That streak of light is what this photograph was about for me too Ana. It was as though he did want to stay in the shade, and it was running out for him. There is nothing he can do to stop that sun moving closer, and the shade shrinking, and his back is against the wall. No where to go.

These are the kind of images that we would rather not see, but it's important to walk around with our eyes open to the world around us and that means to be able to see not only the pretty things, but also the others that hurt...
I like the way that ray of light crosses the image, because it can make me look at this shot in another way... The fact that the light crosses the photos seems to be the reason why the man in recoiling, like he his afraid of the light and would rather stay in his dark little corner. He's probably just sleeping and nor even aware of the light, but the fact that it's there changes my perception of the shot.
I like it a lot, even the grainy, soft focus of the photo seem to match the mood of the composition. To me it's a very good work. Congratulations Kal.
