You have such a way of making me look again Phil. Now that I have these photographs side by side, I understand what you mean about the important context the book adds. I had not thought about it before, but she is comparing reality with what she sees in that book, and now it all takes on a different meaning.
I think this works a bit better for me because of the context I get from the book that I did not get before. She seems to be have been looking at an album of photographs. She lifts her head, as if to verify that what she sees in the picture is really the same world she sees through the window. And thus an entirely new level of meaning comes to this image for me, Kal. It was missing in the other image. Sure, the emphasis on the face is stronger in the other version. But this context adds so much to the image for me that I would gladly setting for this somewhat reduced facial glow in order to see her compare the illusion of the photographic image to the real world outside of her window.
