Thanks for your comment Phil, I appreciate them as always. The burned out book was deliberate in photoshop (the book was well exposed), since it added to the dreamy feel of the image (at least I think so). I might actually post this with the original in to the successes gallery to remind me of what I did here. I was experimenting again with old images that I had not posted.
The book is burned out, and the view out of the window lacks symbolic content. Yet this image is about neither the view or the book. They are incidental, not critical, context. What is important here is the child and its moment of reflection. She is illuminated exquisitely, creating an aura of dreaminess that justifies the title. You bring a father's love to this image, Kal -- all who look at this image will feel that. Ana is right. It is a combination of the expressive qualities of both light and her response, made possible by your vantage point and timing, that convey meaning here so well.
Thank you Ana. So small, the book is almost as big as her. She amazes me you know. She has not had (and because of it neither have we) had an easy start to her life, but every time I look at a picture I have taken of her I see so much in her. Thank you Ana for your kind words about my choice of timing and about Freyha. I love this picture, it captures her essence, as her father I am bound to say that, but the fact that you see it pleases me more than you can imagine.
Dreamer... You know that the title of this photo really makes think that there was no other way into which we can see the this shot. The child really looks like it's lots in its dreams, just like the world of the child is the one on the photo album and by looking outside the window it's just like its looking into a world of dreams, an unreachable world even...
Those are very complex emotions to belong to such a baby, but whereas for the efect of the light, or the perfect instant where you've decided to click the shutter, those are the emotions that linger...
Great work kal.
