This image is expressive because it is in our face. Spontaneous. Joyful. It has incongruity in that the world round him continues to function normally while he celebrates in front of us. Exuberance is a human value, and this guy is exuberant. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the other two bottles he was carrying because four bottles make it even more incongruous. Your image reminds me of Henri Cartier Bresson's classic "Rue Mouffetard, Paris, 1954" at:http://www.peterfetterman.com/artists/cb/pic15.html
The expressions and degree of pleasure varies from his picture to yours. HCB's image is one of the most significant examples of human values on display ever -- it speaks of a sense of great pride, for a child to be given the task of bringing home the wine to family. Yours speaks more of sheer enthusiasm.
(Forty four years later, that same kid from the Rue Mouffetard would be a surprise guest at HCB's 90th Birthday party in 1998. He walked into the room carrying two bottles of champagne under his arm, and the same proud smile on his face.)
Not sure if this is expressive. The incongruity of the beer and his party atmosphere with the rest of the world going on as normal, is what makes this image for me. It is the weekend, and nothing is going to stop the party happening, not even daylight! Not much abstraction, but plenty of Human Values, How do you see it Phil? From an execution point of view, should I lose the end of the car on the left?
