Just outside the historic town of Sandwich is the Rare Species Conservation Centre which cares for some of the world's most endangered species, as well as supporting a number of in-situ projects, encouraging conservation in the countries where these animals originate. The centre is also involved in breeding programs, helping the threatened species to survive.

The animals are grouped by the regions they originate from, along with sub-tropical plants from the creatures' homes. In the Madagascan Conservation Area you can find Lemurs, along with their natural predator the Fossa. The Indochina Walkway provides good views of a pair of young Cambodian Sun Bears, New Guinea Singing Dogs and a Malayan Tapir, amongst other things. The covered Forest Area is home to large Victoria Crowned Pigeons, Smooth Coated Otters, Emperor Tamarins and a small colony of Flying Foxes.

There's much more to see, including beautiful Snow Leopards - and it's nice to know that your entrance fee helps to look after the animals both at the Centre, and in their natural environments around the world. You can find more information at the Centre's website.
