Ooty - AKA Udhagamandalam or Ootacamund

We arrived in the ex-British hill station of Udhagamandalam (nicknamed Ooty) after a 40-odd hour journey from Hampi. We both found ourselves shivering and sporting goosebumps when we arrived - daft really, as the temperature was still in the mid-20s - we'd consider that warm at home!

The town is now a favourite with domestic tourists, who can be found wandering around with woolly jumpers, hats and earmuffs on. Unfortunately the steam train from Coimbatoire is not currently running due to a landslide (ironically it starts up again in about two weeks - shame we missed it), but we still got a taste of the narrow-gauge railway by travelling down to Coonor and back.

This Ooty gallery is charming.
It looks a tranquil place, and the pictures of the trees at Cairnhill are wonderful.
