This tiger park in Madhya Pradesh is certainly not as user-friendly a its Rajisthani counterpart, Ranthambore - definitely not for the single traveller anyway - as you must book an entire jeep, rather than a seat on it. If you can find people to share costs with, great...if not the cost is steep Rs3080 (for foreigners - less of course for Indians; unfortunately such racism is the norm over here).
At this time of year, you really need to be going into zone one, a that's where the water is, and all the tiger sightings are there. I'm not sure about other times of year, but April/May, if you can't get into zone one, you may a well save your money.
I've had a bit (understatement) of bad luck here - my five-month old Sigma superzoom has died, and I'm now going to have to go on a frantic search around North India to try and find a replacement...which by all accounts will cost almost double what it would in the UK.
Still, it wasn't a total disaster - after an unproductive and expensive safari in zone two (when my lens died), I arranged to join with a couple for an afternoon in zone one. I managed to unjam my zoom, and use manual focus to squeeze a few shots out if it. Here are the results.
Some of my photos are now available to buy in a variety of sizes and finishes, or as digital files, at SerenityPhotography.co.uk. Search through my entire library of stock images here, including all my stock images of India.
