South of Paphos

- Kourion, Kolossi, Sanctuary of Apollo Ylatis and Aphrodites Rocks



Chris and I drove south one day towards Limassol to explore the archaeological site at Kourion, Kolossi Castle, the photogenic Sanctuary of Apollo Ylatis (pictured on many Cypriot tourism posters) and Aphrodite's Rocks - also known as Petra tou Romiou. The latter is the birthplace of the mythical Aphrodite (called Venus by the Romans), who floated ashore on a scallop shell. Legends aside, it's a very pretty spot - especially at sunset, which is when we arrived.
