The girls of Cabrini High and the boys of Holy Cross commuted to Baton Rouge for almost two months following Hurricane Katrina, a distance of 180 miles a day. On November 8, 2005 Cabrini High on Esplanade Avenue reopened and is permitting the Holy Cross students to attend classes there in the afternoon-evening. The girls of Cabrini attend the morning-early afternoon session.
Holy Cross plans to reopen its school in mobile classrooms on their campus in the spring. It suffered extensive water damage from flooding.
Holy Cross School is one of the oldest boys school in New Orleans, established in the 1800's. It is located in the Upper Ninth Ward on the Mississippi River Road next to the Industrial Canal.
My father was a boarder at Holy Cross and graduated in 1906. My three sons graduated from Holy Cross and my grandson is a senior. He has no school to return to.
