September Morn

New Orleans City Park

She sits on a pedestal in the Park guarding her domain since Hurricane Katrina flood waters hit on a September morn. She took a beating during the hurricane. There are heavy branches on the ground all around her. But, she is still beautiful.
I spent several hours in New Orleans City Park today; I was the only person in the Park, sort of like Alice in Wonderland. Looked high and low for the swans but did not even see the one I saw last week. There is a white Pekin duck living on Swan Island, the same duck that has always been there, waiting for them to come home.
I began a new gallery "Katrina Was No Lady" that will be ongoing for a while. I also have a lot to add to "New Orleans City Park After Hurricane Katrina" and "Metairie Gardens After Hurricane Katrina."

This is fantastic Coleen! The greens on the upper body add such character to this already delightful character. Great tree for background.

Weathered, but still beautiful. She's a survivor. Wonderful photo.

Nice statue but sheneeds a wash.

Well there's one that's probably pretty much indestructable. Inspiring for us all.

This capture says it all. She seems heartbroken and alone. I KNOW the swans are alright. Waterbirds are very adept at surviving storms.

You´re right. She is still beautiful.

She`s still a lovely lady, after taking such a beating!

She has a presence about her ... I like this! :)
Cindy Flood04-Oct-2005 03:16
If she could tell her story. Thanks for all your work.

I had to go down in the city this afternoon and came through City Park on my way back. It was so sad.

She's still pretty after taking such a beating!

She's beautiful, and her luster will return.

Her patina has taken a beating since I last photographed her. Very interesting shot; lovely and sad at the same time.

She's lonely right now, but this too will change.
