Mardi Gras on Canal Street in New Orleans in 1906

Notice the clothing the people wore and I would bet the house that there was not an alcoholic drink to be seen--when people acted civilly in public.
This was the location that my mother insisted on watching the Rex parade all the days of her life.

Mardi Gras without alcohol? Definitely a different era. Love this old photo and the clothing and original buildings. Hope it was a coolish day. :)

Looks like around D H Holmes or so, great historic photo. You're right about acting civilly. If we NEVER go back there for Mardi Gras....

Not to argue with you but considering the time and the water quality I would guess there were pocket flasks galore.

Take away the booze and people can act civilly in public. Cool memory.

A fascinating image from so long ago. Weren't there even any little flasks hidden in purses or jacket pockets?

Yep, no sleeze there. Looks like fun! Covered from head to toe... and no drunks. Oh, to live in a simpler place and time.
