Bur-marigold (Bidens laevis)

St. Charles Parish, Louisiana

Locally known as Forchette, French for "fork", this herbaceous plant produces an abundance of sharp, forked seeds which pierce the skin of nutria, forming pustules and damaging the pelt and many times killing the nutria.
Our swamps and canals are solid gold with them right now.

Pretty flower, horrible way for a nutria to die.
