Sunrise in the Cypress Marsh

Bayou LaBranche - St. Charles Parish, Louisiana

It was a very cold morning when this photo was taken.
Saltwater intrusion is pushing farther and farther into the freshwater bayous and marshland in this area and thousands of the cypresses are dying a slow death.
If something is not done immediately to slow this saltwater intrusion or stop it completely the land where my father walked, hunted and fished will no longer exist. Areas where shrimp have their incubators will be gone, wildlife will disappear and a way of life will be gone forever.
In the natural process of things land disappears, waterways change and life goes on. However, in my lifetime I have seen a rapid disappearance of our coastline, our marshland and our estuaries.
