Day 20 we ended up on an unplanned drive around the Reykjanes Peninsula area. We saw the Brimketill Lava Rock Pool, the Krysuvik Geothermal Mud Pits, and Kleifarvatn lake, which is completely fed from underground springs. Throughout our whole trip, we had been hoping to see the Northern Lights, but the conditions just hadn't been right. This evening, we finally got lucky and managed to get a very minor display of the lights. While we've seen more spectacular Norther Lights displays in Alaska, it was unique for us to see them here in Iceland at the same time as seeing the sunset. One of the benefits of the sun not fully setting this far north during the summer.
