Barren River Lake State Park

We woke up early at Barren River Lake State Park in Kentucky. The sky was overcast, a spritz of rain and then clearing. Our odometer reading was 25939, we traveled 1499.3 miles since we left NJ and traveled 426.7 miles since yesterday. I photographed some horses, a silo and donkeys on US 231. We crossed the William H. Natcher Bridge (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_H._Natcher_Bridge ) which carries US 231 from Owensboro, Kentucky to Rockport, Indiana. We stopped for lunch at a Burger King ($9.07) 101 Cross Pointe Blvd., Evansville, Indiana (( http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&geocode=&q=burger+king&near=rockport+indiana&ie=UTF8&ll=37.977587,-87.462064&spn=0.000909,0.001312&t=h&z=19 ) We and picked up Shell gas here as well (8.16 gal., $15.25, mileage 26096). This stop in Evansville, Indiana became significant later on in our trip because on August 19, 2004, DAY 60, we passed through here again as we traveled to the southern states of Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. We planned on staying in one of two campsites when we arrived in St. Louis, Missouri. However they were both completely full. We were now in a dilemma because we had no place to sleep. It was getting late so we decided to get a hotel room. The first hotel did not take pets. They referred us to a local Residence Inn. We found the place, I parked and went to the front desk. A very jolly desk clerk warmly welcomed me. I asked about dogs staying with us in the room and he explained the hotel policy. There was an additional fee of $10 as well as signing a waiver, accepting responsibility for any damages caused by the dog. I was extremely worried because I was signing a waiver in excess of $3,000. Sasha was still a puppy and liked to chew on anything she got into her mouth. Needless to say, we took the room. I piled all the furniture up, hid the TV remote control and prayed that Sasha behaved. David went on the internet to try and scope out more campgrounds in the basic direction we were headed. I layed down on the floor in the middle of the room with Sasha still on her leash hoping she behaved herself. I passed out from exhaustion and woke up the next day only to find Sasha and David sleeping (out cold) in the king size bed. I took a great photo!
