73 Day Summer Road Trip Across America 2004

Photo Gallery of our 73 Day Road Trip across the United States which began the first day of Summer, Monday, June 21, 2004. I left on a Road Trip across America with my 17 year old son and two year old chocolate Lab! The photos represent a sample of our 73 days of travel from June 21, 2004 through September 1, 2004. We have driven a total of 24,031 miles, and visited all 48 states in the continental USA. We have gotten four Jiffy Lubes, one set of tires and brakes. This photo gallery will be updated with the final set of photos and captions on a daily basis. Thank you to everyone back at home and those of you who we met on the road for allowing us to share our photos and experience with you. Steven, I am at awl with the beautiful photos you have on you site. It was wonderful having you here in our campground in Flagstaff and the conversations we had on photography. I have had many comments on the Hummingbird shots I took and showed you and the one from the Superstition Mountains. Glad you made you and your son had this beautiful and safe, unforgettable trip together. Hope to meet you again, here in AZ or along the way.

Steven, I met you, your son, and the lab at a Walgreens in Lafayette, IN. I've wandered through some of your photos. At this point you had reached 18,500 miles (give or take a few) I too, traverse the country when I can. I have seen many of the places that you have photographed. The geographic, geologic, topographic, and socio-cultural variance of the U.S. never ceases to amaze me. For the last 10 or 12 years I have avoided interstate highways as a general rule in order to get a ground based feel for the people and sights that exist in this country. Some of your photos look like pix I have taken of the same places, formations, and structures. (even some of the camera angles are frightenly similar) I have an eclectic collection of rocks and minerals from places that you have experienced. One of my favorites is a perfect hexagonal crystal of tourmaline taken from the back of George Washington's head at Rushmore! I teach geology at a local high school...just to let you know where part of this message comes from. Stay safe and keep exploring! Paul
