Blue Ridge Parkway, NC to Smoky Mountain National Park, TN
We arrived at the Blue Ridge Parkway, Milepost 339.5, Crabtree Meadows Campsite (Site #63),Little Switzerland, North Carolina last night. We woke up at 6:53am, the sky was clearing from rain. We headed out, leaving up the tent, looking for breakfast. We found the Little Switzerland Cafe http://www.switzerlandcafe.com/store.htm, in Little Switzerland, 8 miles north, off the Blue Ridge Parkway. I was expecting to get a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs but had to settle for an English muffin, juice and coffee. Sasha waited in the car while we ate inside near a window so we could keep an eye on her. Breakfast cost $6.15. We vwent to the gift shop and I bought "Blue Ridge Parkway" playing cards for Kevin, a "shot glass" for Brittany, and post cards and a cinnamon bun for David to go. The gifts cost $10.17. We then drove up a "private road" into a development overlooking the valley. I took a photo of a house under construction. An awsome view! We returned to the campsite and re-stowed the car. We left around 12:30pm, stopped at the "Crabtree Meadows" gift shop. I bought a "Blueridge Parkway" T-Shirt and a bear for Kevin. We almost ran out of gas and coasted into a Shell gasoline station in Asheville, NC on fumes. Our odometer mileage was 25396 and it cost $29.25 for 15.4 gallons. We spent $4.92 at McDonalds for David. We took 240 to 26 east to 40 west to exit 27. We arrived at Great Smoky National Park http://www.nps.gov/grsm, ELKMONT SITE G20 (( http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/upload/Elkmont2.pdf ) Morton Overlook, at 6:04pm and pitched our tent. About 20 minutes later we experienced a torrential downpour. It rained throughout the night. David returned to the car to eat 2 rolls, lemonade and a cinnamon bun for dinner. I stayed in the tent with Sasha for the rest of the night.
