1995: Slide On Brother

Here's my brother, quite oblivious
to one of the many boring slide shows
I used to put on.

Note: I've always loved the story-telling aspect
of photography, and the way it records our
personal history. Here, you see a few things
going on. First, I'm playing a slide show,
which in today's digital age is simply a
thing of the past. It's just not something
many folks do any more, myself included.
Of course, people now do "slide shows"
digitally with their computers, HDTVs and
digital projectors and that's cool, but I'm
talking about the good old-fashioned slide show.
Kids take note, this kind of slide show is where
the term comes from.

Secondly, if you look at the slide image itself,
you can see the NYC skyline with the Empire State
Building in center, and the Twin Towers at your
far right. As we all know, the Twin Towers are
no more, and the NYC skyline has been changed
forever because of it.

Lastly, my bro certainly does not look that young and
trim any more! Sorry dude! Ok, neither do I :-)

In all seriousness, there was nothing quite like the 3D look
of a sharply projected slide. Perhaps I will try it again
sometime, if I could ever find that old projector.

I loved the slide shows. I even loved loading the trays. Great memories and a great photo ~V~

I so loved getting developed Velvia slides back and projecting them on the wall that night. This Tri-X look grainy image is just so good. You should print it. V

This is a great exposure, and I really like the composition too!

Hey Sam, thanks for the memories. I remember all the slide shows my dad used to put on when I was a kid. He used to use an old pull down blind as the screen because it was white. Those were the days, but for some reason he changed from slide film to print film in the early 80s and it just wasn't the same. BV

Very cool blast from the past! Love the story as well. I still love slide shows. Nothing like a great travelcade slide show. Bore all the inlaws and selfishly enjoy the scenes! ~V~

a slide show in the 60s, where all that was shown was
ocean from a ferry...no kidding.....:)

I really miss a lot the old slide show: the dark in the room, the particular noise of the dia-pro....

I always liked slide-shows, I must admit, and I do regret somehow that nowadays the images are almost exclusively viewed on computer screens.
This image really has a lot to tell.

Love the idea. I shall try it too and call it "retro evening". BV
