As we rounded the edge of the mountain, Heather could not contain her excitement; coming right out of the car seat - Oh my god!, Oh my God, was all I heard.

Blue Bergy Bit in VatnaJokull
This blue bit, which was probably the size of a four story building is illustrative of the dynamics of the lagoon. The blue ice is part of the berg which was recently underwater. As the top of the berg melts, it becomes unstable and flips, the ice which was underwater is blue and as the sun gets to it, it begins to melt, and turns white. This berg had flipped just this morning, so the blue was still prevalent.

The Glacier Lagoon in all its glory
There are thousands of pieces of ice floating in this lagoon, some small enough to pick up with your hands and others as big as a small office building. A breath-taking view to take in at once.

More ant people on the water
This picture was taken from atop a high hill of silt & debris which was the remnants of the tip of the glacier, which dropped a LOT of dirt before receding. In 1930 the Vatnajokull glacier, reached the bridge over the highway. Today it is 5 km from the highway and receding 100 m per year. The amphibious boats leave every 30minutes full of ant people.

Steady as she goes
You can see the different water lines on this big boy. As the ice melts it needs to re-balance itself, this guy may be ony hours away from the big flip!

We were hoping this piece would break off when we were sailing by as it was likely one that flipped yesterday.

The Bergs Head Out to The Ocean
This is where the glacier meets the sea, 70 years ago this was where the glacier ended. The bergs you see there are bottomed-out in the river and will not flow out until they melt enough.
