Green sea turtles (honu) bask in the tropical sun of Hawaii to rest after gathering food, as they need the heat energy to warm their cold-blooded body.
This peaceful time allows them to recover from long periods in the ocean, gathering limu seaweed.
I captured this sunset image on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island. Their presence, especially on
the Big Island, adds a wonderful sense of peace to our beaches, and significance to this protected species.
