December 7: Your Power is Off

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Our local utility is San Diego Gas and Electric. They announced via letter last week that the power in my neighborhood would be off all day to perform a maintenance upgrade.

But at 7:52 a.m. this morning is I was in shock when WHACK the entire house shut down. I had it in my mind the outage was scheduled for Friday.

Horrors:
How can I relate to my PaD buddies?
How can post my image?

Well I finally figured out what to do, so here is today’s PaD.

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
1/10s f/5.0 at 40.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Bruce (et al) just as I was about to do something like Bruce suggests, the power came back on!

From a laptop, while sipping a latte at Starbucks?

Well at least you received notice. Here it simply goes away.

An opportunity to take the camera out for a walk, give it some fresh air, maybe even take the wife and go for a coffee somewhere where there is electricity. It has been a while since we suffered a deliberate long term outage.

What... they disconnect you just like that!!! I've never heard of anything like that happening here - not disconnecting places for a whole day and on purpose! It's outrageous!
Larry Ahern08-Dec-2004 09:38
Ouch ... ten hours!! I don't even own a non-electric guitar anymore. So addicted to electricty "(

I'm originally from Mrxico City and let me tell you, the power goes out at least once a month.
We are lucky to live in the US.

I think this is what they call "making a silk purse out of a sows ear" I had one of those electrical "sorry for the inconvenience" days last year. So silly. Oh gosh no, its no inconvenience really -- its just that every part of my life has to be plugged into a socket somewhere. Anyway, I ramble. Very nice photo.

Our power company just did the same thing last month, and many area stores lost a day of business, but I guess it has to be done sometime. I love how you did this, hope to see you back soon, better hurry while pbase is running good. ;-)

Oh...they wouldn't get away with that here at this time of year. Oh...would they?
virginiacoastline08-Dec-2004 03:17
I can't IMAGINE the power company doing that!! Here, there'd be one HECK of an uproar!

10 hours is a long time! Hope you found some place fun to go.
Wesley Aston08-Dec-2004 02:57
that sucks! Mine went out today, but for only a few seconds. Only surged one hub that I have.

Sometimes we take for granted the powers that be. Makes you wonder how people ever got to do they're PAD photos 150 years ago...

Gives a new meaning to living in the Dark Ages (my children's reference to Time Before Them). Glad you were able to shed some light on the subject. Good work on this; laptop come in handy??

You are definitely resourseful!!
Gary Winters08-Dec-2004 01:12
Gee, Robin, that is quite a crisis. Not sure I would have handled it so well. Love the shot and the PS getting the words around the frame. Good work!

10 hours is a bit excessive in my mind but I guess Rancho Bernardo citizens are known to be peaceful and well behaved.
Guest 08-Dec-2004 00:19
Let me guess, you purchased 10 million batteries?! Yikes! Good luck with the power upgrade! Clever photo to portray your dilemma.
Guest 08-Dec-2004 00:05
Oh, such a big inconvenience by "Ten hours"!!! Glad everything is ok again!
Cheryl Hawkins08-Dec-2004 00:05
Great lemonade photo!

Just as I was composing yesterday's PotD, the power went out. Even though I had planned on using a flashlight for lighting my object, I just gave up and went to bed. No PaD for 12/6.

You did much better.
Guest 07-Dec-2004 23:31
Well done, Robin. You are truly resourceful.
Gayle P. Clement07-Dec-2004 23:01
LOL! Only you, Robin. Ten hours is a long time. I'd have to go somewhere for the day.
