December 8: What is it?

My backyard

Even though my power is back on, today is kind of a blah day. It is not sunny enough to get a decent image that really sings. But, really wanting to demonstrate my new lens, I took this close up.
For a bit more perspective on the subject go to this slightly larger view.

Quite a lot of detail in that camera, eh? Nice work.

quite great details here!!!

I would have guessed potato if it weren't for the needles. A cactus, no doubt! Nice close up, Robin!

Excellent shot Robin. It must be the fruit from a cactus!
cheers

...and I just saw the link in your caption. WOW. I figured this was an 100% crop, but the area covered is small yet it's really finely detailed.

Cool.

Nice detail in this picture when you view it 'original'. That lens sure looks like a keeper. My buddy has one; took a few shots with it - first impressions are that it definately outshines the 75-300mm IS lens.

You can really crop the image without loosing definition.

Breland has the right answer.

Nice lens, superb sharp detail, I thought it was a red potato starting to grow eyes, LOL.

The prickly end of the backyard? Is the lens really worth it? How well does it perform under lower light conditions.

Wow, couldn't even guess what this is! Super crop and the lens seems awesome. Great job.

Call me conventional, but I like the long shot even more.

This looks like fun - I have to treat myself to a macro lens one day!

A prickly pear from a cactus.

Impressive lens.

It's an alien space ship. Good shot!

I think it's a potato that sat too long in the bag.
