Robin,

Bird of Paradise were plentiful where I lived in La Mirada oh so many years ago. I left California 30+ years ago when my parents returned to their home in Indiana, but I am still caught by memories of my life there, I still find these facinating flowers but now can only view them in botanical gardens. I like the blue violet spike with the little cup at the base, I think a photo of just this area with the right angle would provide a very nice abstract.

I know what it is now that I read the comments, would have never guessed though, I can't say I have ever seen a bird of paradise, I love the colors though.

I guess is the, in spanish named "Ave del Paraiso" If the name in english is the exact translation so could be like "Bird of paradise"
