July 11: Mount Washington

Jackson, NH

I may post a different image later. I am just showing off. This is Mt. Washinton from Sue’s deck taken with my L lens extended x2. See http://www.pbase.com/image/31205418 for unzoomed version taken at the same time.
Sue is off at church (probably praying for me), and we will meet for brunch at the Eagle Mountain House in 30 minutes.
The good news the rain stopped.
Mt. Washington is the highest point in the Northeast. It is infamous for having horrendous weather on top. Gale force winds at the summit are the highest ever recorded in the World 231mph, 1931, highest recorded windspeed on Earth. (Thanks for the detail brother Mark)

Have climbed this many times and skied Tuckerman's Ravine in May and June as well as Hillman's Highway which is just to the left of Tuckerman's. Looks like all the snow was gone when this was shot.

Yes you are showing off... and why shouldn't you!!! Great photo, Robin... Now I want a fancy camera and fancy lenses too (need to get Liam out sweeping chimneys!!!).

Awesome! That lens combo really cut through the haze. I knew some people must have views like this out their windows. I'd love it. Looks like the Boot Spur trail in the foreground. Tuckermen Ravine behind it. I hiked to Boot Spur the first week of May 1992. Below treeline the snow was beginning to melt from the bottom and I occassionally post-holed to my waist. Above treeline there was a few inches of snow. Very calm and still looking, but there was a sound of rushing water everywhere.

231mph, 1931, highest recorded windspeed on Earth.

Nice Zoom! lots of detail than not zoomed! probably glad you're visiting in July and not January! I hear it gets nasty up there in the Winter!

Beautiful photo Robin. I used to live about 3 hours south from there.

Isn't it fun? Great shot.

30 minutes?? You're good! Took us about all day to get there (by foot) a 'few' years ago :) Beautiful vista!

I would love to be able to get up in the morning and have a cup of coffee looking at that view. Sue has an awesome back yard! Looks like there is some kind of structure on top of the mountain? Is it accessible by road?

You are showing off! But I like it. I will use it as one more reason to justify why I need a new camera and a variety of lenses! Nice shot. Sounds like you're having fun.

Oops, I meant "off," not "foo."
Guest 11-Jul-2004 14:38
I'd show foo too if I had such a vista to shoot. Ask Sue to pray for me too. Nah, too late!
