June 4: Where Have All the Birds Gone?

My backyard

Naturally I wanted to embark on the great bird photographic trek today with my new lens. But, gosh, although I could hear several types, I could find no bird in my backyard.

Not wanting to leave home today (why shouldn’t those feathered friends come to me, he asks,) I stalked this wild iris. This one is a pure volunteer. I did not plant it and it was not there last year.

Thus a bit of overkill with the 400 mm lens but a presentation image captured all the same.

Canon EOS 10D , with 2 x extender
1/350th @ f/5.6
315 mm 100 ISO full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

I can see your point about it being an OTT lens for such a shot but it's no less pretty because of that

Did the size of the lens scare them off :) 400mm or not, this is lovely. Guess you just don't have to walk as far to find them anymore??

Bird feeder, hun!! That will bring them in!!

The black background is really effective on this one. And, if you're ever REALLY in Louisiana, give us a call.

No Stewart... LA means Los Angeles! What a hoot! And it was a joke!
Stu05-Jun-2004 08:22
You were in Louisiana!!!!

Robin, I see YOU did get a shot of a beautiful flower! Nice one. I hope you find some birds for tomorrow! :)

Kate: LOL I promise ...no fake birds.
Stewart: What do you mean... I was in LA! ;-)
Stu05-Jun-2004 01:02
This is excellent - with that lens you now have, the iris could be as far away as LA for all we know!
Guest 05-Jun-2004 00:48
Lovely photo. But don't try to foist any fake birds off on us!

Great capture. I don't know why but this plant seems to have a cheesed off look, as if it is sick of having a camera (new lens) being pointed at it ! LOL:-))

Robin, I am still suffering from a classic case of lens envy. Oh, well, you'll have to take the shots for me! Nice! And a volunteer, too! Lucky you!

Pete, I created a mask and painted black over the outside edges.

You had to get a 400 mm to do this nice flowershot.
It is a very nice image.
