The two flights from where we live in Florida to Beijing, China went like a fine tuned time-piece; which came as a relief after our rocky early morning start. Well... maybe the airline food wasn't very fine-tuned. But on a long flight you get hungry and almost anything look good. Ever since we started planning this trip many friends have asked, “Which way will you go, east or west?” My answer was, “I don’t know.” Our actual route was neither east nor west. The United Airlines Boeing 777 departed Washington, DC and turned northbound. We flew just east of the North Pole, between the pole and Greenland. From the Arctic Circle we swooped south (everything is south from the North Pole) over Russia, then into China to land in Beijing. |
