Unlike its western neighbours, the Polish Air Force, or Wojska Lotnicze i Obrony Powietrznej (WOPL, until 2004), had more time to change to the new era of being part of NATO instead of WarPac. However, hundreds of Lim-5/6 attack aircraft (MiG-17 clones), MiG-21's, Su-7's, Su-20's and several Ts-11 trainers were withdrawn from use. Later, the MiG-23's, more MiG-21's and Ts-11's and the first Su-22's followed. This process lasted for a long time, with more cuts throughout the years. Now, the Polish Air Force (Siły Powietrzne Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej) is a modern air force with a solid fleet of F-16's, MiG-29's and Su-22's. Who would have imagined this in 1990?
Great gallery. I like it because of the quality of images and because you give background information on all the planes. I invite you to visit my gallery of planes. Thanks for sharing! V V Dov (in Southern California)
