s/n 9173452 belongs to this nice Minolta XG9. The XG9 replaced the XG2 (or XG7, depending on where you lived) and was sold between 1979 and 1981, before being replaced by the XG-M (the one with the new logo). The XG9 offered a much brighter Acute Matte viewfinder (also used in the top XD-series and later in the X-series) than the XG2/XG1 had. Also, it had a depth of view (DOF) preview, a periscope showing the chosen aperture and (compared to the XG1) more shutterspeed info in the viewfinder and a backside with memo card holder.
Like the XG1, which is almost simular in appearance, the camera is solid and easy to use. With the improvements almost all faults were dealt with. Almost, because the light meter still doesn't work in manual mode.
Even so, the well-equipped and reasonably priced XG9 meant there was no real place in the market for the much more expensive XD5, the toned-down version of the flagship XD7 (XD11 in the US).
